Camp Raleigh,  Company 3531, P-66

Company 3531 was located in Raleigh County on the present site of Shady Springs High School. This CCC Company was transferred from Harlan, KY and initially set up an advance party in tents on July 15, 1935. The Company was officially organized in September of 1935 and was composed largely of enrollees from Raleigh, Cabell and Wayne Counties.

Missions of Co 3531, P-66, were focused on fire control management on private lands over a vast area and included fire tower construction at Huff Knob and later at Round Knob and Ivy Knob. Another project was construction of many truck trails through the wilderness and help with construction of Grandview State Park, overlooking the New River Canyon.

Men of this Company also built ranger stations at Prosperity and Camp Creek and strung telephone lines throughout the region. This CCC Company ceased to exist sometime in late 1941. Company 3531, as were most CCC Companies, was noted for its high work performance and achievement in personal education.
