William A. McClain

                           


Bill McClain was inducted into the WV State CCC Museum Association Class of 2012 Hall of Fame on October 20, 2012.
After high school graduation in 1938, he enrolled in the CCC at Camp Tygart in Randolph County.
  He found a comfortable place to sleep, regular meals, and good work, planting trees, building fences, soils remediation. The CCC payments he received made him feel that he was rich.

Bill took advantage of many educational courses and quickly moved up the ladder of leadership. At age 18, Bill was promoted to field leader and barracks leader and was known to run a tight ship. In 1940, he attended Officer Training School in London, Ohio, and upon completion was promoted to First Sergeant, reporting directly to the Reserve Army Officer in charge of Camp Tygart. In 1942, he enlisted in the Navy. Following WWII, he returned to WV, he started a family and obtained a business degree in accounting. He worked for Union Carbide and retired after 42 years. He passed away on March 19, 2017 in Charleston, West Virginia.
