March 31, 2008 is CCC Recognition Day in West Virginia and in several other states. It marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Civilian Conservation Corps by President Roosevelt on that date in 1933. Make this a special day by engaging in one or more of the following activities. |
||
- Send a link by email to several friends directing them to the West Virginia CCC Website. - Prepare for a visit to the West Virginia CCC Museum and take a friend. - Interview a local CCC Boy. - Reserve a place at the Spring 2008 Jubilee. - Join the West Virginia CCC Museum Association. - Make a contribution to the Association. - Review information on our web site and do a school project or service club report on the CCC. - Contact 2 or more of your local civic clubs, public officials and school/college social studies coordinators; ask them to conduct a CCC program in March. - If you live near a state park, ask your park superintendant to make plans to observe CCC Day. - If you are a travel group member, social studies class teacher or other spokesperson, arrange for a group visit and tour of the CCC camp museum. - Write to your local state legislators to thank them for passing CCC Day Resolution 12. The resolution is on our web site. - Contact your local county commissioners and ask them to proclaim CCC day on March 31. - Contact your local newspapers to get a CCC feature published early in March. - Consider a Project/report on "Remembering the CCC" when looking at CONSERVATION projects for social studies fairs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Garden Clubs, Extension Service Outreach Education clubs and others. Please remember, there is valuable CCC program content added periodically on our web site. Check back often. |
