Great web site. I have a photograph of the entire Hardy County Camp which built Lost River State park. The photo was taken from an adjoining hill. I am having it restored now. I would be pleased to share copies of it when restoration is completed. |

I remember standing around the country store out back, for blacks or the CCC men were only allow two at a time in the store and only if there any whites was in the store,I never know who these men were but last night I dreamed of one of them that I seen that had a long burn on his neck and face,as a child it kept me up many a nights I wonder who they were in them green and brown uniforms, I understand better now and pray that this country will someday know more about them. |

my dad DELBERT DETAMORE really loved telling his stories about the camp and doing all the work they did he was proud that he could work and they sent money home to his mother i think it was like 17 dollars a month he told me many stories about bein down cranberry building railroad track and how many rattlesnakes they would kill in a day he went from the camp and went on to the navy and WW2 he survived pearl harbor and went on to work 35 years at US STEEL all of the stories he would tell me he loved talking about the camp and how his boots would be froze to the floor when they would get up before daylight and go work all day |

I am interested in the Elkin, West Virginia area CCC. My father, C. Raymond Calhoun was assigned to work in the CCC camp in this area in the 1930’s. He spoke very little about the camp life or the young men. He, however, had a fondness for the area of West Virginia. As a genealogist, I am interested in his CCC records. In his memory, I would like to preserve those records on Our Family Tree. Is it possible to obtain copies? I am willing to pay for the information. Murmur Calhoun |

I am hoping someone will know a Jessie Shelton. He was in the Blue Ridge Parkway camp in Lou Ray Virginia between 1940-1941. He met my mother in-law mother and they dated. Well she got pregnant and he didn’t know and she moved away. She was told this in a letter in 2007. So if anyone remembers Mr Jessie Shelton can they e-mail me. She was always told growing up her father wasn’t her father. She is now 70 and would like to know if he still around and would like to talk. |
